Reception Letter

Week Beginning the 13th November

Dear Parents

What a busy week we have had in school. We received a letter from ‘Stick Man’ who told us he was lost. We tried to think of ways in which we could help and talked about what it feels like to lose things. We have also done lots of measuring this week, we used rulers and tape measures to measure different sticks and we tried hard to record our findings. Wow!

Next week we will be focusing on the following:

Literacy – Through our Narrative Immersion text ‘Stick Man’ we will be investigating ‘sinking and floating’ using lots of different materials. We will also be talking about the theme ‘challenge. ’

  • What is a challenge?
  • How do we tackle challenge?
  • What challenges do you have?
  • Do you ever stop facing challenge?

Letters and Sounds – We will be introducing the sounds h, b, f, ff, ll, ss – we will be blending the sounds together to make simple words and practicing the correct letter formation. We will be learning to read and write the words the Tricky words the, to and a.

Mathematics – Linked to the story ‘Stick Man’ we will be creating a tally and a pictograph of different types of pets and we will be learning a new song to help us find one more than a given number.

  Little Reminders

  • READING BOOKS – We will be changing books and checking initial sounds on Monday. Please make sure your child’s reading things are in school every day. The children visit the school Library on a Friday so please make sure their book and planner are in their bag ready to change. Thank youJ
  • PE Kits – We have PE on a Monday. Please make sure your child’s PE kit is in school. Thank youJ

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday.

Thank you for your help and support

Nursery Letter

Week Commencing : 13th November 2017

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had a lovely week learning about size and shape this week (with the help of stickman) we have also wrote a missing person poster to help find stickman.

Next Week we will be doing the following:

*Top Secret* – Across school we use a method of teaching through stories called Narrative Immersion. We do lots of drama activities to learn about the story and develop language and mark making as well as tackling challenging concepts. This half term will be starting our new book Stickman by Julia Donaldson. Feel free to have a look at this book yourself (YouTube has videos of the book) but please DON’T read it to your children as we will reveal part of the story each week and want it to be a surprise. Don’t worry if your child already knows the story, with all the drama we do, they will still get excited about helping Stickman.

Literacy – We will be making maps to help Stickman get back home (continued from last week) and we will be designing flags for the boy at the beach so that stickman can get back home.

Letters and Sounds – We will making using beaters to make different sounds in the classroom and outside for our work on instrumental sounds and we will use voice sounds in rhymes.

Mathematics – We will be doing problem solving using sticks and talking about capacity as we make bird feeders.

Little Reminders:

  • Please remember to check your child’s spare clothes bag regularly to ensure they have a full set of clothes in school at all times. You will find the red bag on your child’s peg.
  • Now the weather is getting colder, please send your child to school with a hat and mittens (preferably). We do go outside in all weathers as part of our Early Years curriculum and we have had lots of children complaining their hands are cold.

Thank you for your help and support
