Charity Events 2015

Charity Events 2015

Throughout 2015 St. Thomas’ pupils, parents and staff have been involved with several different charity events and fundraising activities. Overall since September we have raised a combined £525.53. We would like to thank everyone for their continued efforts and say a very big well done!

Please have a look a the charities we have supported this year and what we have done to raise awareness.

Stockport Mind

Stockport Mind is an independent mental health charity affiliated with National Mind. They offer support and information to those in mental distress and work to promote positive well-being in the local community.

As part of our health and well being week staff from Stockport Mind delivered a session to each year group surrounding mental health. The sessions were based on exploring what our feelings mean, recognising our emotions, identifying if any feelings are really “bad” and promoting positive self worth. All sessions were devised to be fun and informative and were based at an age appropriate level.

At the end of the week we held a non-school uniform day and the children presented their work in a special assembly to help raise awareness amongst our parents.

In total we raised £126.95 for Stockport Mind.

Children in Need

Each year BBC Children in Need helps fund projects across the UK for disadvantaged children and young adults. Their vision is for every child in the UK to have a safe, happy and secure childhood and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

This year in support of Children in Need pupils and staff came to school dressed in fancy dress, the theme was ‘wild and wacky’!

In total we raised £132.35 for Children in Need.

Poppy Appeal

The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal helps to provide modern veterans, service men, women and their families with crucial advice and support. The poppy is worn as a symbol of remembrance for those who have fallen but it is also a symbol for the future of the living.

In the lead up to remembrance Sunday St. Thomas’ staff and children had the opportunity to buy a poppy and items for the Poppy Day goodie box to show their support for this charity and the fantastic work they do supporting those who have fought to keep our country free and safe, and the families of those men and women who gave their lives and did not return.

In total we raised £214.18 for The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Save the Children

Save the children works in 120 countries saving children’s lives and fighting for them to have a better future. They believe every child should have the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Save the children has been working in the UK since 1920 helping to tackle child poverty.

At Christmas children and staff from St. Thomas’ came to school wearing a Christmas themed jumper and were asked to make a donation to support Save the Children and the work they do.

In total we raised £52.05 for Save the Children.
