Year One Newsletter
Welcome back to the new term! We hope that you all had a great Christmas and are ready for the term ahead. Here is some information about this term:
This term’s book is Lost and Found. Please see the attached book overview for more information about what we will be learning this term.
Homework is an important activity that supports your child’s learning. Please help your child to complete one piece of homework per week which should be handed in every Friday. Please sit with your child whilst they are completing their homework to help them and to make sure they are forming both their letters and numbers in the correct way.
Reading books will be changed every week and guided reading is done weekly. It is very important that you read at home with your child as often as possible. Please record this in your child’s reading record (this also counts towards homework points!).
In June, Year 1 will complete a statutory ‘Phonics Screening Check’, each child will be asked to read 40 words – 20 real words and 20 pseudo words – to check their phonic knowledge/reading skills, more information will be provided in due course, we are learning phase 5 sounds and re-capping phase 3 (please see overleaf for the sounds covered in each phase).
The children will continue to do P.E. on Wednesday & Thursday. This half-term we will have a gymnastics coach in each Thursday, for health and safety in these lessons it is very important children are in the correct PE kit.Thank you for your continued support,
