Welcome back to the new term! We hope that you all had a great summer and are ready for the term ahead. Here is some information about this term:
This term’s theme is ‘Home’. Please see the attached book overview, for more information about what we will be learning this term. We will continue to adopt a play based approach to learning during the transition from Reception to Year 1 as we move from the Early Years Curriculum to the National Curriculum. The learning will gradually become more formal throughout the year.
Homework is an important activity that supports your child’s learning. This half term’s Homework Grid is linked to our theme. More information will be sent home with their homework grid next week. Please sit with your child whilst they are completing their homework to help them and to make sure they are forming both their letters and numbers in the correct way.
Reading books will be changed every week and a comment will be written in your child’s reading record. Please ensure that reading books and planners are in school every day. It is very important that you read at home with your child as often as possible. Library books will be changed each Friday.
The children will be doing P.E. on a Wednesday and Thursday. It is very important that children’s correct P.E kits are in school. Children should wear a white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps (not trainers). Please make sure all their clothes and belongings have their names inside.
During morning play/break children can buy a snack from the school tuck shop, it is 20p a day but free fruit on a Friday. They will be offered free fruit each day too.
We will continue with daily phonics lessons (letters and sounds) to support reading and spelling. At the end of Year 1 your child will complete a statutory phonics screening check, more information will be sent out later in the year. We will start by re-capping the phase 3/4 sounds and be moving on to phase 5 soon.
I hope that your child will enjoy a happy and successful time in Year 1! However if there is ever something that is bothering them or anything that you need to know please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support,
