Spring 2018 Newsletter
Welcome back to the new term! We hope that you all had a great Christmas and feel rested and ready for the term ahead. Here is some information about this term:
This term’s book is ‘Hermelin’. Please see the attached book overview for more information about what we will be learning this term.
Homework is an important activity that supports your child’s learning. Please help your child to complete one piece of homework per week which should be handed in every Friday. Please sit with your child whilst they are completing their homework to help them and to make sure they are forming both their letters and numbers in the correct way.
Reading books will be changed every week and guided reading is done weekly. It is very important that you read at home with your child as often as possible. Please record this in your child’s reading record (this also counts towards homework points!). In June, Year 1 will complete a statutory ‘Phonics Screening Check’, each child will be asked to read 40 words – 20 real words and 20 pseudo words – to check their phonic knowledge/reading skills, more information will be provided in due course.
The children will continue to do P.E. on Wednesdays. This half-term we will also have Mr Hulme for a music lesson each Tuesday, the lessons will be linked with our book and theme.
We are lucky to be working on a project with Chester Zoo called ‘Sing for Songbirds’ there will be a series of lessons and practical workshops delivered in school by Jenny and Adele, two of Chester Zoo’s rangers. These workshops will raise awareness of endangered species, in particular the songbirds, as well as teaching children about conservation. We will be going on a trip to the Zoo as well to see the Songbirds and do some fieldwork, we are all excited to start the project!
Thank you for your continued support,
Please have a look at the Parent Overview below to find what your child will be learning about this term.
