At St Thomas' we use Retention and Recall strategies to ensure the children can demonstrate what they have learnt in a lesson or over a period of time.
Recall Rectangle
We use the Recall Rectangle either at the start of a unit to see what the children can remember from the previous year or at the end of a unit to see what they have learnt from the unit.
The children are asked to write one question, 2 facts and 3 words related to the unit.
Key Questions
At the start or end of a lesson the children may be asked to answer a Key Question linked to what they have been learning about.
This is to see if the children have retained the information or knowledge of the last lesson or from work during that week.
Friday Forum
Every Friday, all class complete a Friday Forum activity, which focuses on Recall.
It gives the children the opportunity to recall what they have learnt this week, what they have learnt last week and what they have learnt last half term or term.
The children really enjoy this session and can demonstrate what they can recall.
