St Thomas' C of E Primary School

Mission Statement

Our vision at St Thomas’ Church of England Primary School is “Believe to Achieve”.

We encourage all our children to aspire to be the best person they can be by believing in themselves and God within the school environment that promotes Christian values. Our vision is articulated daily in our school prayer which is central to our collective worship:

Always be with me to help me;
To run faster than I hoped,
To reach higher than I thought,
To go further than I dreamed;
To be the person I need to be.
Always be with me to help me
To believe to achieve.

“And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us. Keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.” Hebrews Ch12 V1-2

Our Vision for the future

At St Thomas’ education is about children experiencing the joy of discovery, solving problems, being creative in writing, art and music, developing their self‑confidence as learners and maturing socially and emotionally in a safe, secure environment with an ethos based firmly on British, Christian values. St Thomas’ will combine high standards with a broad and rich curriculum. Education will be the fusion of excellence and enjoyment. Children learn better when they are excited and engaged, when there is joy in what they are doing, they learn to love learning.

Literacy and numeracy will be the backbone of our pupils’ success in learning. We will build on our strengths to serve the needs of our children using the skills of everyone in the school. This school will drive its own improvement, to set its own challenging targets recognising that for the sake of our children we can always do better.

Learning will be focused on individual pupils’ needs and abilities: and we will develop assessment for learning, which enables knowledge about individual children to inform the way they learn and are taught.

Teachers and support staff will provide a tailored approach to support children with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and minority ethnic groups. We will give extra support to the children that need it most.

We will promote mutual respect amongst all members of the school community by recognising and respecting the rich diversity of cultures within the school, whilst offering equality of opportunity to all regardless of age, ability, gender, race, culture, beliefs and sexual orientation.

We will build a partnership with parents/carers by giving good information, welcoming them into school to share in their children’s success and by knitting the school into the fabric of their community.

We will provide activities outside school hours helping give children pleasure in learning and broaden their life experiences.

All in school will promote high standards of behaviour by modelling and teaching positive behaviour to all children.
